Server Operating System and Application Virtualization
Virtualization of both operating systems and applications has been a huge leap forward for technology to reduce hardware footprints and make everything more mobile and versatile. It is critical to understand how virtualization can be used in your infrastructure for both production systems and for development. Why have server systems using only 5% for their CPU and memory if those resources can be utilized to their full extent? Not only can you run more workloads on your servers and shrink your datacenter but you can also make everything highly available as if everything was running on a failover cluster. Virtualized applications are also easier to manage when they can run in virtual memory space instead of having to be installed on each server. Separate the operating system from the hardware, remove applications from the operating system and centralize all user state data in another location to create an environment that can be rapidly deployed, recovered and standardized.
